About Me

Roomate Profile Photo_edited.jpg

Hello! My name is Ryan Beckett, and I want to design engineering solutions that improve the lives of people with disabilities. I myself am on the autism spectrum and have an undiagnosed neuromuscular disorder. Instead of letting these differences define my life, I use them every day to give me a unique perspective to help the world.

I am a master's student studying Human Factors Engineering at Tufts University. I am spending my time at Tufts shaping myself to make the best possible impact. Through the human factors design process, I can truly make the change I want to see.

I graduated with honors from Lehigh University in 2019 with a B.S. Integrated Degree in Engineering Arts and Sciences with concentrations in Mechanical Engineering and Philosophy.

This honors program at Lehigh allowed me to achieve not only the requirements for a Mechanical Engineering and a Philosophy degree but also to combine the two degrees making me a better engineer and a better philosopher. The crux of my degree is using my engineering knowledge to design things with more human needs in mind.

Since graduation, I have been exploring several options to figure out how to apply my skill set in a way that I find personally rewarding and helpful to the world.  Through this process, I have found that design work with a focus on human factors gives me the ability to not only apply my engineering skills but also address solutions from a human perspective. I believe this field will allow me to exercise both sides of my skill set while making an impact that could help improve people's lives.

Along with this career interest, I am passionate about music, tabletop and video games, and spending time in the great outdoors.  I am an alumni member of Kappa Kappa Psi, the honorary band fraternity, and an active percussionist specializing in mallet percussion and cymbals. I also spend my free time playing both tabletop and video games, along with absorbing video game news. I am very knowledgeable in the field and particularly enjoy strategy games, Metroidvanias and Action-adventures. Despite growing up with an undiagnosable muscle disorder I have always enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors. I grew up and currently live in Denver, CO, and besides exploring the Rocky Mountains in our backyard, I have explored numerous national parks, 38 of the United states, and have spent time in several other countries.
