Undergraduate Thesis

          I wrote my undergraduate thesis on the backstory of design beyond the engineering experience: the philosophy of creativity and creation. Through this paper I contend our experiences with the world around us truly power the human thinking behind the engineering design that originates from creativity. I have grown to appreciate the social impact behind engineering design and the meaning that comes from combining our scientific and cognitive knowledge with the process behind our creations. The philosophy of creativity and creation is hard to pin down because, instead of defining what is, like in the philosophy of science, or asking how we understand how we think, like in the philosophy of mind, creation is about using our known knowledge to make something novel. In that sense the backstory behind engineering design stems from what we know and how we think to form a philosophical field defining our thought process to make something new. This new philosophical field strengthens my understanding of my engineering experiences and demonstrates how I came to my conclusion on the backstory of design.
